Dieting has never been an easy task, there’s no question about that. In fact, most diets are agonizing and torturous! It involves discipline, commitment and dedication. Not only that, most of the time diets require us to do an upheaval on our lives and make a lifestyle change. This is precisely the reason why it is important that before we set on taking up a specific diet program, we must make sure that it will be worth our time, effort and investment. If we were to flip our lives like that, we might as well just go on all out.
The reality that comes along with dieting is not that friendly especially in counting one’s calories. If you are weak and easily intimidated, none of the many diets available will work for you if you don’t get a hold of yourself. First rule in this game is motivation. Know the reason why you are going on a diet. You cannot “just want to” go on a diet. You need to set a goal for yourself to serve as your motivation. You have to want it enough in order for you to stick with it. This brings us to the next principle, sticking with it. Committing yourself and following through is the next crucial step in dieting. Without consistency, even all the diets in the whole world combined will do nothing to you. See to it that you do not fall into the trap of yo-yo dieting.
You cannot decide to diet today and stop tomorrow with plans of starting again next week. This mentality will get you nowhere. Finally, we have to have discipline. If you are already investing on a program, then at least do it properly to generate results. Otherwise, you’re just throwing away valuable time and money that could be used someplace else. One must be able to stay above oneself. One must be able to control one’s self during times of weakness. One must learn how to say no to those things that should be said “NO” to. Dieting is more than just about a physical accomplishment. It is also a test for the mind as well as the character. If you get through it and succeed, you are a winner in its truest sense.
